Other Eye Diseases & Conditions

There are a number of other eye diseases and conditions that can cause vision loss. Eye diseases such as Stargardt’s, Retinopathy of Prematurity and conditions such as Albinism can all cause vision problems. Other conditions such as strokes and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) can also cause vision impairments.

What is Digital Eye Strain? Do you have it?

More than 90% of adults spend more than 2 hours each day using a digital device, and more than 60% adults spend 5 or more hours looking at digital devices each day. Using these digital devices can lead to digital eye strain. Symptoms include headache, and/or dry, itchy or burning eyes.

What can you do to prevent Digital Eye Strain?

The optical industry recognized a need for specialized lenses that cater to varied vision needs and has developed lenses that limit the amount of harmful blue light that penetrates eyes to avoid digital eye strain.

Blue light-blocking lenses selectively absorb harmful blue light, keeping it from entering through the cornea and reaching the back of the eye. When wearing glasses with lenses that eliminate blue light, users experience more relaxation, sharper focus, and reduced blurriness and pixilation.

There are a variety of difference lenses that prevent blue-blocking light. They are available in different tint colors, frame styles, lens type, and in fit-over or wrap-around designs.

To select the best option, consumers should take into consideration whether or not they will be wearing prescription glasses with a filter, where they will be wearing them (indoors or outdoors), the amount of time spent in front of a computer, ambient lighting conditions, distance from the computer, and the type of computer work being done.
