How do I disinfect my Eschenbach products?

Eschenbach recommends using Clorox® Bleach-Free Disinfecting Wipes or Lysol® Disinfecting wipes to clean and disinfect its magnifying products. This includes disinfection from various viruses including the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) which causes COVID-19. Clorox® Bleach-Free Disinfecting Wipes and Lysol® Disinfecting wipes are on the United States EPA list of approved disinfectants for use against SARS-CoV-2  and have also proven to be safe for use with our products and will not damage or erode the coatings or lens material components. Although there are other disinfectants available, the Clorox® Bleach-Free disinfecting wipes and Lysol® Disinfecting wipes are the only ones that have been tested on our products to date and remain the only approved disinfectant product for use at this time.

To use the Clorox® Bleach-Free wipes and Lysol® Disinfecting wipes safely on our products, simply wipe the product off with the disinfectant wipe and then leave it for 10 minutes before reusing.  If after 10 minutes moisture remains on the lens, we suggest using a microfiber cloth to dry the lens.

For certain absorptive filters and readers made by Foster Grant® including the Solar Shield®, SolarComfort® and Haven® filters and the Private Eyes, Polinelli®, Microvision and LightSpecs® readers, Foster Grant recommends using soap and water. Caution must be taken with the LightSpecs® so as not to get water near the battery compartments on the temples.

Why should I offer Low Vision care?

It has been estimated that 20 million Americans, age 40 and older, suffer from some form of vision impairment, many of which are due to age-related eye diseases. As the population of our country grows older, those numbers will only increase. You probably see these patients every day and now you can do something to help them! Adding Low Vision Services to your practice enhances your patient care and does so in a manner that makes good economic sense!

What are the causes of Low Vision?

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of Low Vision, followed by other eye diseases, such as Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma and Retinitis Pigmentosa. A variety of other conditions, such as in-operable or pre-operative Cataracts can also lead to Low Vision. Stargartds and other hereditary diseases can also cause impaired vision.  Find out more about low vision diseases.

How does Low Vision Affect my Patients?

Many activities of daily living (ADLs) are restricted due to the central or peripheral field loss that occurs with eye diseases that cause vision loss. Patients may have difficulty reading, writing, watching television, spotting objects from a distance, and enjoying their hobbies. Imagine trying to read the newspaper or a prescription label with a best-corrected acuity of 20/200 – nearly an impossible task! However, with the right vision aid and training, many Low Vision patients can once again perform their daily activities, thereby regaining much of their lost independence. Click here to learn more.
